I Was Dreamin' When I Wrote This, Forgive Me If It Goes Astray (Dec 29 2003 15:58 GMT) - Christmas zipped by so very quickly. If it weren't for the tree, I think I would doubt it happened at all. My mom showed up on Thursday from Tennessee, with her pooch in tow. She made it into town just as we got out of the midnight service. We went back to the apartment, and since it was "officially" Christmas, we opened gifts right then. |

For Absent Friends (Dec 29 2003 15:57 GMT) - The latest Pew Internet & American Life Project survey is out, and not surprisingly, it finds that Net usage is leveling off at about 63 percent of the population. This is what you would expect to happen with any new technology: rapid growth, consolidation, eventual ubiquity. This pattern has stirred old worries that the Net is too expensive or too confusing for everyone to partake. But staying unwired now may be the rational choice for some folks, even if academics and wonks pronounce the Net "indispensable" -- for academics and wonks. |

Brightmail anti-spam: any views? [Hilary Curtis] (Dec 29 2003 15:57 GMT) - As regular readers will know, spam doesn't much bother me. But I'm still interested to hear that my ISP (Demon) is about to offer a free upstream spam-filtering service using Brightmail technology. Not sure if I should take up this option - anyone care to offer an opinion? |

Cinnamon Helps Diabetes & Cholesterol (Dec 29 2003 15:55 GMT) - Cinnamon Helps Type 2 Diabetes "Cinnamon can improve glucose and cholesterol levels in the blood" (it helps the glucose for type 2 diabetes). The amount of cinnamon seems to make a difference; lower amounts seemed to help control glucose levels more, while higher amounts helped regulate cholersterol levels. So that's how it's done (Dec 29 2003 15:54 GMT) - Craig points to Dave Pollard's The Blogging Process, an "attempt to document what bloggers have learned, without any formal instruction, to do every day." I'd like to say what I do is as thorough and formal as Dave's diagram suggests, but it's not. At least not consciously. |
