Osama Ben Franklin? (Dec 29 2003 21:58 GMT) - From the "you've got to be s#!*ing me" files: The FBI is warning police nationwide to be alert for people carrying almanacs, cautioning that the popular reference books covering everything from abbreviations to weather trends could be used for terrorist planning. In a bulletin sent Christmas Eve to about 18,000 police organizations, the FBI said terrorists may use almanacs "to assist with target selection and pre-operational planning." It urged officers to watch during searches, traffic stops and other investigations for anyone carrying almanacs, especially if the books are annotated in suspicious ways. |

Anyone who could work, did work. Skilled labour was a highly-prized commodity with demand far exceeding supply, and therefore if Crachitt was competent he would have found a better-paid job elsewhere."Funny stuff, via Accordian Guy. |

Rangel's Dance of Death (Dec 29 2003 21:56 GMT) - dave's not here recently posted a rant against military conscription, a proposal floated by NY Rep. Chuck Rangel, among others. The thing is, Rangel doesn't really want the draft either. His promotion of the draft is part and parcel of his opposition to the Iraq war: he wants young men and women conscripted so that the American public will cease supporting the liberation. |
