On Religion and The Silicon Valley (Dec 30 2003 01:59 GMT) - Robert Scoble recently posted an entry, on why Silicon Valley happened where it did, and not in, say, Kansas. In a nutshell, Robert believes, that religion stifles invention, and that Kansas' relative location within the Bible Belt may have been the biggest factor. Personally, I don't know. I don't have the empiric data to prove or disprove his assumptions, but I do know one thing - when it comes to dogmatism, set-in-your-ways leadership, and being ousted for having some deviant ideals, the Silicon Valley isn't that different from Kansas. In Kansas, I might have to dispute my ideas with a bunch of people who truly believe, G-d created the world in seven days, and that's something to be considered. |
