Another Open Wireless Network gets closed [Julian Bond] (Dec 30 2003 16:02 GMT) - Technology Review: MIT's Magazine of Innovation : Another Open Wireless Network (mine) gets closed This story is from a serious computer security consultant (Simson Garfinkel is the author of O'Reilly's PGP : Pretty Good Privacy, Practical Unix and Internet Security and numerous other articles on information security) who was deliberately running an unsecured Apple Airport. His next door neighbour's son was connecting to it, running Kazaa and caught a Windows virus. |

Blame Canada XI (Dec 30 2003 16:01 GMT) - I'd rather they neglect their duties than perform those duties they shouldn't have to begin with. I was pleased, for example, when former California Attorney General Dan Lungren refused to put any new assault weapons on the list of banned weapons, as California law directed him to do. |

aircraft carrier on eBay (Dec 30 2003 16:01 GMT) - This maybe the first ever aircraft carrier (decommissioned 2001) available for auction at EBAY ! But the auction was delisted not long ago due to accusation wrongly made by a suspicious customer. We showed evidence that this vessel is DECOMMISSIONED and therefore not Ordanance. |

My Christmas Holiday (Dec 30 2003 16:00 GMT) - My Christmas this year is filled with many mixed feelings. I decided to stay home this year. It was my decision. Kent and I talked about going to Yuma, CA for Christmas this year, but I just didn't have the desire to do that. In all honesty..... |

Blame Canada X (Dec 30 2003 16:00 GMT) - No, but if you would go to Düsseldorf anyway, you'd have the responsibility of all regulations that apply to your journey, such as airliner regulations or visa requirements. I don't want to give the USDA responsibility: they have it, by their actions. Classifying meat gives them that responsibility, not their funding. I don't want them to have it either, but the argument to remove their funding is much stronger when you acknowledge they have responsibility they shouldn't have, as opposed to ignoring their responsibility. |
