One that won't make me sick (Dec 31 2003 04:04 GMT) - So this whole banning Ephedra thing...personally, I don't really give a crap because I don't use Ephedra. However, I am bothered by this ruling on a number of levels. Ephedra has been linked to 155 deaths and a bevy of heart attacks and strokes. Yes, that's bad. |

What kind of Political Maniac are You? - Self-Test (Dec 31 2003 04:04 GMT) - Posted by The Happy Tutor Jonathon Delcour has just posted an original and thoughtful, stereotype-busting piece on conflicting political visions. Reading it I wondered if a latent contrast in political thinkers isn't between Romantics and Augustans. The Romantic believes in some force, be it the market, the zeitgeist, the body and blood of Christ, Jihad, Darwinian Selection, the End of History, Chaos, Self-Organizing Worlds of Ends, or whatever other claptrap. |

Back in town - vacation is nice (Dec 31 2003 04:04 GMT) - I am back in town finally from Christmas vacation. 5 nights at the in-laws on their couch can certainly wear on you. I appreciated seeing my relatives again, both my brother and my brother-in-law and their families. I didn't really receive anything special for Christmas: a fryer, a new cell phone plan (NEC 525 -- which ATT Wireless lied about coverage area), and hopefully a different car soon. |

Command Post (Dec 31 2003 04:03 GMT) - Michele looks back at the year that was The Command Post. At the time, I had nothing better to do. That's pretty much the origin of all my blogging endeavors, really... too much time on my hands, and idle hands... |

Money and judicial politics (Dec 31 2003 04:02 GMT) - In October, we commented on political contributions made by Geoffrey Fieger, and in so doing noted (based on a report at the Follow the Money site) that Fieger contributed the statutory maximum of $3,400 to Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly's campaign in 1996. We recently received a message from Justice Kelly, asking us to clarify that |

Very relaxing, but not good blogging material. (Dec 31 2003 04:01 GMT) - Hmmm. Things have been a might bit quiet around here lately. Mainly because I'm enjoying my vacation away from work and, as usual when I'm on vacation, I completely forget about the rest of the world. You see, when I have to get up for work every morning one of... |

Things I Wasn't Too Keen On In 2003 (Dec 31 2003 04:00 GMT) - The whole invasion of Iraq thing. Not only because it's the most two-faced under-false-pretences bollocks war there's ever been (probably), but also because it's buggered international relations left right and centre, and further eroded my childhood notion that the US... |

You know you're approaching New Year on the tube.. ... (Dec 31 2003 04:00 GMT) - You know you're approaching New Year on the tube.....When there's loads of kids on the tube who've not gone back to school yet and tired looking parentsWhen stations are even more filled with people with oversized rucksacks and luggage on wheelsWhen there's a eye hurting display of red and blue Nicotinell "giving up smoking product" ads on the escalatorsWhen the exit and entrance to Piccadilly Circus tube station has a little cage around it - to stop people falling down the stairs while "revelling" around ErosWhen there's loads of out of towners (not just overseas tourists) standing on the left on escalators - CAN'T YOU READ? There are signs saying stand on the right EVERYWHERE.!!!Happy New Year's Eve Eve |

Photos (Dec 31 2003 04:00 GMT) - A new link for the sidebar: my Fotolog. I'll be posting photos I've taken there from time to time, although eventually I hope to move everything over to Movable Type. You know, when I have the time. Meanwhile, I'm going to be ringing in the new year with my parents, my sister, and my virtually housebound 93-year-old grandmother. |
