Doctypes, Mozilla, and CSS (Dec 31 2003 08:01 GMT) - I've been playing around with doctypes during the JournURL redesign, just to see what happens when I bump browsers in and out of quirks mode. My findings may be no-brainers or old-hat to studied HTML junkies, but they might help someone who is even ... |

Blogger News Item (Dec 31 2003 08:00 GMT) - Government decides nearly dead cows might not be good eating New regulations will prohibit the use of so-called "downer" cows for food. Downer animals, including the one U.S. cow that tested positive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy or BSE, can no longer move on their own. How daring pro-active of them! |

The Perkins Curve (Dec 31 2003 08:00 GMT) - We contend that today is a great time to be an entrepreneur, because most of the innovation associated with the Internet is still ahead of us. To defend this position, we have come up with what we immodestly refer to as the "Perkins Curve," which plots the cost associated with starting a new tech company. According to our theory, the cost of starting a company on the back of a... |

Congratulations Sir Tim (Dec 31 2003 08:00 GMT) - In today's New Year's Honours List, the founder of the World Wide Web, the British scientist Tim Berners-Lee, has been awarded a knighthood. All of us who use the Web owe him a huge debt, both for the pioneering work which he described in his book, "Weaving The Web", and and for the further developmental work he is carrying out at the... |

Well, thats it for another year (Dec 31 2003 08:00 GMT) - Despite promising signs, Christmas turned into the flying family furball of arguments and mutual loathing I remember from childhood, and now it's New Years Eve and the b/f is sick. Bollocks.... |

Music collection (Dec 31 2003 08:00 GMT) - I've been playing around with iTunes Catalog this morning and have produced a catalogue of my music collection. (Since I'm just using the demo, it only lists A through E.) I'm very impressed. It took three clicks (or could have done if I hadn't paused to fiddle with all the options) to create a complete catalogue of what's on my iPod and publish it to my .Mac account, including acquiring appropriate artwork for each album from Amazon. |

Blood and stuff (Dec 31 2003 08:00 GMT) - A MetaFilter conversation about menstruation. I know I'm a man 'n all, but the Keeper et al do seem to make a lot of sense. Less money, less waste, less cancer, less toxic shock syndrome - can't be a bad thing, all in all. I admire the matter-of-factness with which women deal with their bodies, and I wish someone could do the same for men. The prostate is important, I hear, but I'm not entirely sure why and how, or what can be done to stop it from turning into a cancerous lump. |
