Athlete's Death Blamed on Ephedra (Dec 31 2003 15:39 GMT) - The death this fall of a semiprofessional football player in Pennsylvania has been blamed on ephedra, the herbal supplement that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday it will ban 60 days after issuing a final rule. |

RFIDs for Cattle tracking (Dec 31 2003 15:38 GMT) - Here's another BIG e-government project in the making. Maybe we could also put RFIDs on people connected to onboard diagnostics and tracking systems so that you could know whenever anyone with an infectious disease is in your vicinity or approaching you and take evasive action. Seriously, this national cattle tracking idea appears to be full speed ahead: Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman said yesterday the agency would speed up implementation of a national plan to track diseased livestock within 48 hours of an outbreak. |
