How Silicon Valley Won the Cold War (Dec 31 2003 20:24 GMT) - Sometimes your parents tell interesting stories. On the way down to Paramount Farms I asked my dad (William Scoble) about his work history. He spent more than 25 years at Lockheed Missles and Space in Sunnyvale. One of the most guarded workplaces in the valley. He told me the story of how Silicon Valley won the cold war (well, played a major role anyway). |

New Saddam Video Bears Out Vatican's 'Cow' Claim (Dec 31 2003 20:22 GMT) - New Pentagon video lends credence to claims made by Cardinal Renato Martino, head of the Vatican's Justice and Peace department and a former papal envoy to the United Nations, just days after Saddam Hussein's arrest that U.S. military officials treated the ousted Iraqi president "like a cow." The leaked footage shows men leading Saddam to an empty, fenced-in field near an apparent service road. The men then take turns driving by Saddam, leaning out the car windows, and shouting "MOOOOOOOOOO! |

Our First Year (Dec 31 2003 20:21 GMT) - I didn’t expect it, but one month after AlwaysOn went live from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on January 31, 2003, the media brand I had been associated with for ten yearsRed Herringended its first life. It's impossible for me to reflect upon 2003 without mentioning that very disappointing moment. The greater irony is that, after outlasting all of its independent competitors, Red Herring magazine ceased publication... |
