It was not without a ... (Dec 31 2003 21:43 GMT) - It was not without a certain sense of irony that I just watched, on this the cusp of an evening sure to be fraught with lechery and debauchery of many forms, Fear and Loathing. The irony enhanced by my watching it with my attorney. I am no Raul Duke and he no Dr. Gonzo, but it struck me as a little funny nonetheless.Bottles of Ballatore, Freixenet Cava Brut, and Veuve Clicquot Demi-Sec chilling in the fridge. |

8bitpeoples (Dec 31 2003 21:43 GMT) - The 8bitpeoples first came together in 1999 as a collective of artists sharing a common love for classic videogames and an approach to music which reflected this obsession. Our primary interests were to provide quality music for free and most importantly to have fun. In the years since, we have grown in rank and expanded our goals. |

Soldier: Life and times of a Jamaican Crack dealer (Dec 31 2003 21:43 GMT) - This is a story about a man named Soldier, one of the Jamaican "rude boys"--or gangsters--who came to Dallas by way of New York and worked his way from the ground up to the higher echelons of the city's crack cocaine trade. Where exactly he fit in among the West Indian factions that controlled low-income apartment complexes like Regency Village and Briarcliff and the numerous drug houses in South Dallas isn't clear; the Jamaican gangsters, who'd pretty much disappeared from Dallas by the mid-1990s, didn't leave corporate flow charts. |

Philadelphia Mummer's Parade (Dec 31 2003 21:43 GMT) - As for back as 400 BC Roman laborers observed that feast of the Saturnalia in honor of their god, Saturn, and the reaping of the harvest. They made calls on friends, they exchanged gifts and it was customary for some of the gifts to bear greetings for a happy new year. from this sister site. |

Snow! (Dec 31 2003 21:43 GMT) - It snowed last night, a bit more than the last time. I took some pictures, and I now realize that if I ever intend to do it again, I need to learn how to compensate for the blinding whiteness of it. Throws everything off (but then, it doesn't look much different than this in person). |

USB HDTV Tuner (Dec 31 2003 21:42 GMT) - I am always reluctant to open up my PC and install things. I know it is not hard, but I never seem to get around to it for some reason. That is why I do not have a TV-Tuner card for my PC. I have been wanting to experiment with HD on my LCD monitor but have not got around to it now. Good news. |

Reminder: HD in Europe Begins Friday (Dec 31 2003 21:42 GMT) - Euro1080 is supposed to start broadcasting HD programming in Europe on January 1. The launch is lacking details or publicity however. No word on where the broadcasts will be available (presumably in bars, hotels, and other public venues since no homes have the receivers necessary). The first broadcast is scheduled to be a New Years concert in Vienna. I can understand the relatively low-profile to make sure all the technical difficulties are worked out, but, in all, HD in Europe seems a little early to me. |

Holga Yorkville #4 -- Crossroads (Dec 31 2003 21:42 GMT) - Fourth and final in a series of four scenes from around Yorkville, shot with my Holga. This is by far my favourite, and I think it's pretty much the best shot to ever come out of my little "plastic piece of junk". On a side note, if you're in Toronto and looking for a Holga, you can pick one up... |
