Past Events (Dec 31 2003 23:01 GMT) - It seems that even the most obsolete events in my life are coming back to bite me in the ass. I was in Oregon a few years ago and received a speeding ticket. Did I attempt to pay it then? No... I let it slide. |

New Toy Update (Dec 31 2003 23:01 GMT) - Well, I decided against keeping the Nokia 3300 series phone. The phone was EXCELLENT, but the quality of the AT&T wireless network is horrible, atleast for GSM only phones. So I paid off my Nextel bill and switched my number from my location in Johnson City, TN to a Pensacola, FL number. So if anyone else uses Nextel and wants to chat my Nexel direct connect number is 186*116*36780. Listening to: |

Living Proof (Dec 31 2003 23:01 GMT) - Alot has happened since my last entry. My father has come to visit Pensacola from Tennessee. It's great having him here. I really wish he would relocate alittle closer to me. I made some changes in my life that is preventing me from seeing my dad as much as I like to, so it would be nice for him to move closer to me. |

Ducks lose a heart breaker (Dec 31 2003 23:00 GMT) - Minnesota 31, Oregon: 30. The game was won with a late field goal that barely made it through the uprights. Clemens had an incredible game with 362 yards, 31 for 43, 3 TDs, and the only interception he threw was in the last 10 seconds of the game. Oh well... |

Happy New Year! (Dec 31 2003 23:00 GMT) - Okay, so 2004 is still well over an hour away, at least in my timezone, but I'll wish everyone a Happy New Year in any case. (219 words) |

No sign of a strike and tubes will run all nightWe ... (Dec 31 2003 23:00 GMT) - No sign of a strike and tubes will run all nightWell I think the New Year's Eve bit of the squash strike is also off as I can't see any mention of it in the news. And "for one night only" the tube will be running all night for New Year "revellers" and transport is free from 11.44pm and 4.30am. So no just missing the last train and no hideously slow night buses - just wish they could do it every weekend. |

Thrills! Excitement! Business? (Dec 31 2003 23:00 GMT) - Apple?s entire business hangs on the hour that Steve Jobs spends onstage at the Macworld Conference & Expo. Attending that conference wearing my journalist, IT, media producer, and geek hats stacked atop one another is a thrill. I also get a king-size kick out of the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference, Apple?s Worldwide Developers Conference, the JavaOne Conference, and the CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association) conference. |

Dancing on the storage chessboard (Dec 31 2003 23:00 GMT) - The recent company acquisitions initiated by EMC remind me of the first moves in a chess games. Although everyone can clearly see each step, understanding their ultimate strategic objective is not always possible. |

A tale of two cultures (Dec 31 2003 23:00 GMT) - I've always blended the geeky, command-line-driven Unix style with the mom-friendly point-and-click Windows approach. To borrow a Microsoft slogan, the two approaches are "better together." Each has strengths that complement weaknesses in the other. However, we've yet to achieve real synergy. |

Making the right IT choices takes courage (Dec 31 2003 23:00 GMT) - Every now and then, an ambitious technology project rolls around that requires investigation of a technology area with which you may not be familiar. You may never have deeply investigated it before, and you don?t have expert knowledge to draw upon. Sometimes, the business environment changes and your company needs new and uncertain technology to beat the competition, or perhaps even just play catch up. In the early days of the Internet, many IT professionals were in this uncomfortable boat. |
