Dylan Thomas goes public domain in Canada (Jan 02 2004 10:57 GMT) - [Via Lawrence Lessig's blog]. If your country, like Canada has a 50 year rule, rejoice. If not, don't."It is Spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the cobblestreets silent and the hunched, courter's-and-rabbits' wood limping invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea."-- Under Milk Wood, Dylan Thomas |

On the other hand.... (Jan 02 2004 10:57 GMT) - I wish I'd seen this article, before I wrote mine. According to the article, a NIAAA study has found, that faith based addiction management [1] could play a powerful role, when treating adolescents and minorities. The article cites a yet-to-be-published study, which found, that individuals who believe, that G-d plays a role in their lives, are less likely to drink. The paper comes at a time, when President Bush's $600M voucher program for faith based treatments has re-awakened some of the presumed dead treatment plans using faith based methodologies, making it interesting to practitioners as well as politicians and tax-payers. Of course, it is premature to make any statements based on an unpublished study, and I am particularly interested, wether it also investigates the question, in how far the underlying support structure, a church or family, for example, was more likely to contribute than spirituality itself. |

NetObjects Fusion - are there other users on Ecademy [Sabine Cretella] (Jan 02 2004 10:55 GMT) - Following a private contact by Jonathan I am asking myself if anyone else on Ecademy uses NetObjects Fusion for website programming. I normally use it to build the structure and the basic contents of the site and then refine this manually - it's much faster than working in pure html. So it would be great if we all could exchange experiences, help and styles etc. All the best, |

The Twelve Days of Christmas… (Jan 02 2004 10:53 GMT) - don’t end until Epiphany, a fact that few seem to realize anymore, if the number of abandoned Christmas trees at curbside is any indication. About seven years ago, my wife and I decided to make a virtue out of necessity. Since we normally visit our parents in Michigan at Christmastime, we decided to give gifts to our children on Epiphany, when we are back in Rockford, rather than to truck the presents both ways across three states. My New Year's Resolution 2004 (Jan 02 2004 10:52 GMT) - I'm not going to answer people anymore when I'm in the bathroom. You're outside, I'm inside for stuff not of concern to you, there's a closed door between us, and I am not crying for help. So - go away. If I'd want to communicate, I'd either face you or contact you, but I'd not hide in a little box to do it. Get the message? |
