Re: The Mutual Fund Problem (Jan 02 2004 21:55 GMT) - Dean Calls for Measure To Restore Trust in Mutual Funds. Dean Criticizes special interest influence on SEC and Congress NASHUA, NH -- Governor Dean today criticized the influence of the powerful mutual fund lobby and urged far-reaching reforms to protect the savings millions of Americans have in mutual funds. Over 95 million Americans own a stake in mutual funds, either directly or through college savings and retirement accounts. Mutual funds help Americans save to send their children to college, pay for the care of aging loved ones, and provide for their own retirement. "Unfortunately, as we have been learning in almost daily revelations, some of the people who were entrusted with protecting the security of Americans' savings were exploiting their power for personal gain while the authorities were asleep at the wheel. |

Best Buy sucks for more reasons than that damned ad. (Jan 02 2004 21:55 GMT) - Ok. I’ll admit it. I was lured into Best Buy this weekend by an ad I saw. It wasn’t the online ad here that keeps trying to sell AOL; it was instead an ad in my paper listing a Toshiba Celeron laptop for only $750 after those infernal rebates. |

Should have seen this coming. (Jan 02 2004 21:51 GMT) - Since we leave in the morning to visit Anglea's grandfather down in Louisiana, and since that means I'll be out of the office on Monday, and since today marks the first working day of the year, I probably should have thought about the fact that being gone on the second working day of the year would require me to get alll of the month and year-end reporting done in one day. I did it, with about 10 minutes to spare, but man I am just mentally exhausted right now. Too many little details and numbers and accounting stuff for one day. And to think I used to do accounting stuff all day every day before I got into IT. How did I do that? |
