BBS Message Systems and Online Communities (Jan 04 2004 23:55 GMT) - Roger Benningfiled discusses what he thinks is incorrect of Scoble's take on decntralzing communities. Both raise interesting points, but one of the comments that Roger makes hits home to me: It simply means that a community needs a sense of place, common experience, and leadership. Three things that you lose... |

*yawn* (Jan 04 2004 23:52 GMT) - Pretty much a nothing day. Little Fayoumis is playing with his Lego Transformers, marxdarx is working on the computer with 3D stuff, and I'm reading and making desultory swipes at my room in between it all. eris_raven has been snuggling up to get petted while I've been curled up on my bed reading Cyteen (again). I am a little grumpy at the conspiracy of schedules that led to me not getting the January bus pass before school shut down for the winter break. Ordinarily, I'd have been all over town on the bus Saturday and today, exploring and seeing what there was to see, but that's not really a financially viable option without a bus pass. |

A political observation: Every presidential ... (Jan 04 2004 23:51 GMT) - A political observation: Every presidential season begins with the pilgrimage to Iowa and New Hampshire. As we all know, this produces innumerable town meetings and debates dominated by talk of farms and agricultural subsidies (Iowa) and manufacturing (New Hampshire). Obviously, the internet economy plays a role in every state, but it became clear to me today during the Democratic Debate how beneficial it would be to add a state dominated by the internet economy to the early slate of primaries and caucuses, in order to assure that internet issues are addressed. |
