OKAY, MAYBE I WAS WRONG: ... (Jan 08 2004 23:45 GMT) - OKAY, MAYBE I WAS WRONG: I've said before that I thought Democratic candidates were doing a much better job on the Web than the Bush Campaign. Comment about the Acorn Electron (1965) (Jan 08 2004 23:45 GMT) - Ah, the Acorn Electron. My first computer bought by my loving parents. I wanted a Spectrum like my friends but I received an Electron as they were educational. I started off with all the Acornsoft stuff, Snapper, Boxer etc and I soon forgot about the rubbish old rubber keyed oversized calculators! My favourite games were Footbal Manager, Codename Droid, Stryker's Run, Citadel and Palace of Magic. |

Social Networking (Jan 08 2004 23:44 GMT) - In 1967, Stanley Milgram proposed the "small world theory", which proposed that every person on earth is connected to every other person by a chain of just six other people. In other words, you know somebody, who knows somebody, etc., You might have heard of a humorous application of this called the Kevin Bacon Game. Several years ago, some clever programmers created a web site, called SixDegrees (it's been down for a while, but is preparing to re-launch), based on this idea. You would register an account, get your friends to sign up, they'd get their friends to sign up, etc. |

Coping (Jan 08 2004 23:44 GMT) - There is one week out of the year that, instead of scoffing at the people with the bulky coats and hoods that project five inches forward of their faces, I'm jealous. This is it. This is also the week I don't mind having hat-hair. Brrr! It's cold! |
