Dollars for Dean (Jan 10 2004 22:57 GMT) - Writing for The New Republic, Jonathan Cohn does a good job making the case for Howard Dean: If Dean has one clear strength over his rivals, it's that he grasps how taking occasional risks -- saying something controversial or attempting to lead public opinion rather than follow it -- can be a more viable political strategy than trying desperately never to stray far from majority views. I made the first political contribution of my life this week, giving to the Dean campaign. I think he's one of the best Democratic candidates in years, and I wanted to add one to the unprecedented number of small-money donors funding his run. |

Dutch Date (Jan 10 2004 22:56 GMT) - I have gotten a bugreport about the Dutch Date extension in Dreamweaver MX 2004. The command fails quite spectacularly when installed. I have asked the person who submitted the bugreport for the original DW MX 2004 commands and I have translated them to Dutch, but I can't run the commands themselves under plain old MX. I hope to have some feedback pretty soon so I can release a new version for all you MX 2004 people out there. In the meantime if anyone is willing to betatest please give me a shout. |

Command Line Happyness (Jan 10 2004 22:56 GMT) - If it's new to me, it might be new to you. If you're in the commandline (on OS X and probably any UNIXy OS) and the line is long (as they sometimes get) and you want to quickly jump to the beginning of the command type control+a. To jump to the end type control+e. (Yes Virginia, this works on commands that span multiple lines.) Oh frabjoy day! |

Models of stability ? (Jan 10 2004 22:53 GMT) - The previous entry on models of change reminded me of something. We devise models for what we want to explain. We want to explain what is not obvious. If we have models of change, it must be that change isn't obvious. Yet change is just the flip side of stability - things change when they don't remain the same. |
