America and Mexico (Jan 11 2004 03:59 GMT) - National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice says the US and Mexico are past our Iraq and illegal immigration problems. Well, of course we are. Mexico was impotent to stop the former, and we've capitulated on the latter. We won one and lost the other. What more is there to argue about? |

Torphichen (Miscellaneous by Corbie) (Jan 11 2004 03:58 GMT) - A review of a number of sites within the range of the Bathgate Hills of West Lothian, and in particular those associated with the starmap of Cairnpapple, suggest that there is some confusion over the origin of said sites. I have taken this opportunity to clarify this situation as best I understand it. My mindmap of this area is built upon 25 years stravaiging across the hills and just as many rummaging through foustie auld buiks. There are four refuge stones documented in various publications (inc. those ... |

America and China (Jan 11 2004 03:54 GMT) - The US State Department has decided that Hong Kongers deserve rights: The United States strongly supports democracy through electoral reform and universal suffrage in Hong Kong. These will advance economic and social development and are essential to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability within the 'one country, two systems' framework. I applaud this support for freedom, but I wonder what this foretells for Taiwan. Given Bush's strong opposition for Taiwaners getting the rights Americans enjoy, would the US support Taiwan freedom being granted or denied at the whim of the Chicoms? |
