clear channels on spectrum policy (Jan 11 2004 08:58 GMT) - Paul Margie has a great and interesting new piece on spectrum policy -- and not just because he's a senior staffer at the FCC. This is the great if invisible fact about bureaucracies like the FCC -- they are filled with amazing people, at least one step down from the top. |

Helpline Comment (25074) (Jan 11 2004 08:57 GMT) - I think I liked CDRWIN version 3.xx (I forget exactly) the best. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to support newer hardware (ah the good ol' days of burning at 1x) but that was the only program that worked how I wanted it to. After getting a newer burner (the old one croaked) I tried to copy a Saturn game. Lots of screwing around and a few coasters followed. |

Merkir Slóvakar: Marilyn, Magnum, Madagaskar og M (Jan 11 2004 08:55 GMT) - Þaðan komu bæði Káta ekkjan og Næturdrottningin. Þaðan komu barnamorðinginn illræmdi, fyrsti konungur allrar Madagaskar, maðurinn sem færði okkur Draugabana og sá sem fann upp fallhlífina. Jú, og vorið í Prag kom líka þaðan. |

late-night would-be intruder (Jan 11 2004 08:54 GMT) - Setting the scene: Time: late night, maybe one and a half big ones in the morning. Place: the Lunatic's bedroom, in a mildly dodgy bit of Phoenix, Arizona (about a quarter of the ground-floor windows have thick security screens over them in this apartment complex)Characters: |

Dems on the Supreme Court (Jan 11 2004 08:54 GMT) - So an underplayed aspect of this campaign has been how the Democratic candidates would differently select the Supreme Court. On NPR's debate, Senator Lieberman pointed to Justice Souter as a model. Congressman Kucinich plugged Justice Ginsburg. I've gotten a couple pings asking what the right answer is. Hard question for me. |

Keeping America safe from six-year-old girls (Jan 11 2004 08:53 GMT) - Is there anyone left that still thinks that the Department of Homeland Security is increasing our security rather than decreasing it? Why can't Homeland Security tell the difference between Al Quaeda and my six-year-old daughter?. My six-year-old daughter is on the CAPPS (Computer Assisted Passenger Pre-Screening) list as a security risk. Here's what happened. We went to visit my parents in Colorado for the holidays. |

Presentation Best Practice - Teaching you to suck eggs! [Simon "PowerPoint" Morton] (Jan 11 2004 08:51 GMT) - Morning all, I thought it might be useful to post a link to the first of series of presentation techniques downloads. This is part of the new Eyeful Presentations website (one of the few new years resolutions I've been able to stick to!). It's basic for a very good reason - it's often the simple things that get missed in the last manic minutes before getting up to present! As such, please feel free to download and distribute at will! |
