I Don't Think I like Matthew Yglesias (Jan 12 2004 06:59 GMT) - I just read Matthew Yglesias's website for the first time, and I find this boy-writer a little swarmy. In particular I object to this biting criticism of Thomas Friedman's reasonable suggestion that we invite Turkey into NAFTA: "For one thing, when did we stop calling it "NAFTA?" More seriously, though, what kind of sense does this make? Does Turkey even want to join NAFTA? |

(Jan 12 2004 06:57 GMT) - I think scientists will appreciate the attention (piggybacked as it is on the success of the Spirit landing) but from what I've read no one really expects that this will prompt an immediate massive new program. (I'm reminded of that proposal to make a huge dent in Africa's AIDS epidemic last year. Whatever happened with that?)By Walt DickinsonSunday, January 11th, 2004 @ 10:57 pmOn Manned Spaceflight |

Apache Commons - are all things equal? (Jan 12 2004 06:57 GMT) - Using EqualsBuilder and HashBuilder from Apache commons is great and does provide you with a quick and easy way of adding equals methods to your classes. Problem is that you need to have someone manually adding equals methods because you need to know which exact attributes of an object make that object equal to another instance.Does anyone know if there is an ant task or someway of generating a default equals method (using Equals Builder and reflection pre compile time) based on specifying which methods you don't want to include in the equals method? This would mean that I would be able to specify that I did not want the StartDate, EndDate, OptimisticLockId and ObjectId to be included in the equals, but that I wanted all other attributes to be tested. If not then I think I may have to write one.. |
