The 25th National Futsal (indoor) Championships (Jan 12 2004 07:26 GMT) - SBS has a story here on the 25th National Futsal (indoor) Championships being held here in Canberra overthe coming week. At first I had hoped this would mean the Futsal Slab on Commonwealth avenue would at last see service as a futsal slab. Sadly it's an indoor tournament, so we will just have to keep holding our breath. |

RiotACT Nominated for 2004 Australian Blog Awards (Jan 12 2004 07:26 GMT) - Well we don't think of ourselves as a blog (weblog), and we didn't seek nomination. Nonetheless, RiotACT has been nominated for the ACT division of the 2004 Australian Blog Awards. The page is worth looking at for the other nominees, most of which seem to have only a peripheral, at best, interest in the ACT. Voting details are on the page, do what you think is right. |

Prison Gets Green Light (Jan 12 2004 07:26 GMT) - Comrade Stanhope's web monkeys have finally bestirred themselves to put up this media release from Friday in which the Comrade finally gives the go ahead (pending other appeals, protests and court actions of course) to the ACT Prison. The emphasis on rehabilitation in the media release is the sort of thing we don't hear often enough in prison debate, and it will be good to stop sending our minor crims off to Goulburn where they move with the big time and come back worse than they went away. Of course it's easy to be high-minded in theory before the thing is built. |

Red Hill Residents Whinge About Quamby (Jan 12 2004 07:26 GMT) - The Canberra Times has a story here in which the residents of Red Hill whinge long and loud about having the Quamby Youth Detention Centre near their expensive homes. It seems the two escapes in five years have made them afeared of walking their dogs. Might it be cheaper to buy them all bigger dogs than to move the centre? Having Quamby in the most expensive part of town is actually one of the things I like about Canberra. |

Stuart Stevens (Jan 12 2004 07:25 GMT) - "There's a dark side to each and every human soul. We wish we were Obi-Wan Kenobi, and for the most part we are, but there's a little Darth Vadar in all of us. Thing is, this ain't no either or proposition. We're talking about dialectics, the good and the bad merging into us. You can run but you can't hide. |

While we have this group of folks in the building, let's lower the bar bills and increase the participation in emergent democracy. |

make status bar accessible as an object (Jan 12 2004 07:23 GMT) - First Post: We can now show or hide the status bar on _screen. What I would like to see is that the statusbar would be an object, integrated as it already is, where we can add or remove panels as we would see fit for our apps, and where we can place text, pictures or whatever. So, after set status bar on we could do something like: oPanel = _screen. |
