Don't Read This Book If You're Stupid (Jan 12 2004 18:34 GMT) - Fischer's fiction is a decidedly mixed bag - his debut Under the Frog was a promising, if conventional, first novel based on the heady days of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution; after that came my favorite of his books, The Thought Gang, a wooly, hilarious shaggy dog romp that he's never quite surpassed; then some duds, The Colllector Collector and his collection of short stories. I've just started reading Voyage to the End of the Room, so I'm reserving judgement. But I do admire his tireless prom ... |

What's Wrong With This Picture? (Jan 12 2004 18:34 GMT) - Yesterday Lew Rockwell blogged this latest political cartoon by Ted Rall. Rall appears to be Rockwell's favorite commie, he's even promoted an article by Rall advocating the nationalization of higher education. I'm sure you understand the message of the cartoon: Bush stole the 2000 election with the help of the Supreme Court and he's prepared to do so again in 2004. That's certainly a consistent position for Rall. |

Did I Say Routinely? (Jan 12 2004 18:34 GMT) - In my last post I asked why, in the wake of the Hoppean Revolution, Lew Rockwell routinely publishes anti-immigration arguments which Hoppe dismisses as wrongheaded. I had not checked today's articles at LRC when I wrote that. Predictably he's published another such article today. Marcus Verhaegh nods in the direction of Hoppe:Those familiar with the work of Hans Hoppe and like-minded Rothbardians already know that libertarianism, understood as a doctrine concerning the primacy of... |

Rockwell On The Hoppean Revolution (Jan 12 2004 18:34 GMT) - Lew Rockwell writes:How can even left-libertarian warmongers think that "open borders" mean freedom? As Hans-Hermann Hoppe reminds us, borders are the essence of private property, and therefore freedom. It takes a huge state to maintain open borders. Here is the original, revolutionary Hoppe article on immigration, which changed the movement. |

Death Threats Against LewRockwell.Com? (Jan 12 2004 18:34 GMT) - Lew Rockwell has chosen to publicly construe a couple of cartoons as death threats. It's pretty clear that the links to the source of these "death threats" have been passed around at LRC - Marcus Epstein found his way to the source to comment and Karen DeCoster found it too. But the LRC bloggers don't supply readers with a link to the source. If LRC readers find their way here they can judge for themslves whether these two posts by John Sabotta constitute death threats... |

A Short Response To Rockwell On Immigration (Jan 12 2004 18:34 GMT) - As a short response "Borders = Liberty" I simply point out that Rockwell's position on immigration cannot be squared with pro-market/anti-state libertarianism. How is it any of Rockwell's business if a Mexican agrees to work at my house? What is the pro-market objection to that private arrangement? What is the anti-state objection to that private arrangement? (And why doesn't anyone at LRC ask these questions publicly? |

Attention Epstein: Jared Taylor is a Crypto-Nazi (Jan 12 2004 18:34 GMT) - In a comment responding to Sabotta Marcus Epstein writes:Tell me if I am misinterpreting your attack. I approvingly cite Jared Taylor, who publishes a newsletter that has an article by a man who wrote a book (which was not entirely sympathetic by the way) about a man who is a allegedly a neo-Nazi.Mr. Epstein, I didn't know Jared Taylor from a hole in the ground before I read Sabotta's piece but it's clear that you're quite familiar with Mr. |

IPO's Good for Economy (Jan 12 2004 18:31 GMT) - Bill Hobbs, of HobbsOnline, a really great blog by the way, has recently posted a semi-rebuttal / semi-building from a post I referenced earlier today. He makes some very good points, even if I don't entirely see the game playing out that way: Cornwall is right to fret that going public may mean Google's corporate culture - the very recipe for its amazing success - is at risk of change. And it could change Google for the worse. On the other hand, it could change Google for the better. |
