More fines (Jan 12 2004 18:30 GMT) - The latest fines news as Speeding drivers face victim levy. This is getting daft, I'm going to need a category soon just for all the fine related items I've blogged about. Now they are adding £5 to speeding fines etc to pay for victim support. Why don't they actually make the perpetrator pay for victim support - not speeding motorist, who seem to be yet again a soft target. Note that I'm not condoning speeding! |

groggy bleh ugh (Jan 12 2004 18:30 GMT) - so I am feeling like I need to sleep. I still feel a little bit like I have the same cold that I have been fighting since we returned from mississippi. today at work, I am trying to get everything set up to roll the new computers out to the labs. I have my image machine set up, but we are having trouble getting a workable floppy boot disk so that we can create an image of that machine via Symantec Ghost and then push the image out over a router to a bunch of other machines. it looks like the particular model of dell's that we received need a patch to work properly with ghost. |

Pro-RFID Group Sends Wrong Email To Anti-RFID Group (Jan 12 2004 18:30 GMT) - You've all heard stories (or been a part of) about email exchanges where the wrong thing was sent to the wrong person. One of the more common mistakes is someone hitting "reply" instead of "forward" and typing in a comment that the original sender as clearly not intended to see. That seems to be the case with an email exchange between a student intern at the Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA) and the founder and director of Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering (CASPIAN). The GMA supports using RFID tags, while CASPIAN has been outspoken against the tags. GMA had an intern contact the founder and director and ask for a bio. |

...and the award for Best Supporting Cast goes to... (Weblog by Jane) (Jan 12 2004 18:30 GMT) - When you go to Avebury, it's easy to be wowed by what I call the 'Hollywood' sites; the stone circle itself, the henge, West Kennett long barrow and Silbury. But allow a little time, too, for the Supporting Cast, for these unsung 'B-movie' sites are real beauties in their own right and add to the context and one's understanding of the Oscar winners. The promise of a chink of blue sky in the west lured us out for the day with a shopping list of sites to see from the Marlborough Down's Best Supporting ... |

Why I Love Netflix (Jan 12 2004 18:29 GMT) - Most moving, I think, was the scene in which Malcolm first meets "the honorable" Elijah Muhammud. I was blown away with both the expert pacing which made lead-in to the moment awesome and breathtaking, and then Denzel Washington's perfect response, which was the ultimate payoff. One of the most moving film moments I can think of. Aside from the assasination scene, which was just breathtakingly intense and sorrowful. I know, I'm way late to the game, but if you haven't seen Malcolm X, you are really, really missing something. |
