Blogger News Item (Jan 13 2004 23:59 GMT) - To get to the following text, you must first navigate to zappa.com, and watch a 15-second flash animation before choosing your bandwidth. Then you must click on the carefully-hidden “FZ” at the bottom of the snowflake peace reigns page, go to videos, choose “Baby Snakes” at at the same URL, then scroll unintuitively past the cover picture in the pop-up. Maybe they want to hide this high-energy text, but runswithscissors suggested that I post it here so Zappa fans can read it without a pilot’s license (“I respect our President because he’s a pilot.” – “Yeah, but so is John Travolta. |

Blogger News Item (Jan 13 2004 23:59 GMT) - The Greensboro Parks & Recreation Commission's "task force" on the future re-use of War Memorial Stadium held its first real meeting last night. This committee has been charged by the City Manager's Office with determining how the historic structure and surrounding property will best serve the community after minor-league baseball vacates the stadium in 2005. Many things were discussed as being suited for the facility but mainly it was agreed that the main tenants should be college and amatuer baseball teams. |

Blogger News Item (Jan 13 2004 23:59 GMT) - A spokesman from the Department of Health Scares has advised the public to think twice before clenching salmon under their armpits as it may make them ill. The spokesman indicated that the problem is mainly to do with farmed salmon but hinted that salmon living in the city may also be an issue. The salmon industry immediately hit back at the claims. The President of the Salmon Producer's Guild, Douglas Ramsbottom, paraded his young daughter in front of the media with a salmon firmly wedged under each arm. "My family have always put salmon under our armpits and it's never done us any harm," said a clearly exasperated Mr Ramsbottom. |

Blogger News Item (Jan 13 2004 23:59 GMT) - The Catholic Church is to re-categorise rumpy-pumpy, declaring it a virtue rather than a vice. The move comes after Professor Simon Blackburn of Cambridge University thought deeply about the vice and came to the conclusion that it wasn't so bad after all. The philosopher, best known for his work on rude things, is said to be pleased with the Church's decision. [More] |

The show will feature a cast of has-beens, burn-outs, and washed-upped artists, including Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson, desperately competing to get back into the music business. [More] |

Blogger News Item (Jan 13 2004 23:59 GMT) - Remarks in a new book by Bush Administration insider Paul O'Neill have drawn considerable ire from several handicapped organizations. The former U.S. Treasury Secretary says the President's cabinet meetings, during which plans for regime change in Iraq were put in motion a mere ten days after Bush's inauguration, resembled "a blind man in a roomful of deaf people." The National Association of Blind and Deaf Americans issued an angry statement this week, saying, "The NABDA resents any comparison between our membership and the incompetent moron President. |

FeedDemon and well-formed Atom feeds, ... (Jan 13 2004 23:57 GMT) - FeedDemon and well-formed Atom feeds, Part II. Last night I stated my position on well-formed Atom feeds, but I'm not sure I did a good job of explaining myself. The point here isn't that I'm trying to save myself time by requiring well-formed Atom feeds - I've already written a forgiving RSS parser which could easily be adapted to handle Atom, so this will actually take me more development time. And while I agree 100% with the position that users don't care about well-formed XML, the point is that parsing malformed feeds will require users to care later on. With both HomeSite and TopStyle, I've seen first-hand the problems that customers deal with due to the way different browsers handle HTML and CSS. |
