Lethal consequences of SPAM (plus stupidity and greed) (Jan 31 2004 07:59 GMT) - These days I'm consistently getting between 40 and 70 SPAM emails a day, most of which are automatically handled by SpamBayes, fortunately, but it's still a pest. Good News! (Jan 31 2004 07:56 GMT) - Well, I've gotten the official news, I've been promoted! I've gone from Gallery Assistant to Gallery Leader, and I'm now in charge of the whole Physical Sciences Dept. at the museum, including our amazing demonstration site (which served over 100,000 visitors last year), the structures and engineering gallery, an outdoor 'science park' (no fun now, lots of fun in the summer), a math and puzzles area, and numerous small projects, workshops, activities, and other stuff. |

Consumer group: Publish textbooks entirely online (Jan 31 2004 07:50 GMT) - "The Public Interest Research Group goes further, recommending that new books and new editions should be published entirely online to save on printing costs." - The Seattle Post-Intelligencer.The TeleRead take: Triggering these sentiments is a rise in student spending on textbooks. The National Association of College Stores says it rocketed from $619 in the 99-2000 school year to $807 in 2002-2003--or 30 percent in just three years. |
