The software that .NET forgot... (Feb 02 2004 23:06 GMT) - For some reason, Microsoft's brilliant and cutting-edge .NET development environment left out one crucial tool... a tool that has been common in software development environments since, oh, about 1950, and taken so much for granted that it's incredibly strange that nobody noticed that .NET doesn't really have one. -- Joel Spolsky And what is the software that PHP forgot? |

UK Government To Legalise Cannibalism (Feb 02 2004 23:06 GMT) - In a surprise announcement yesterday, Gregory Mullet, junior minister at the Home Office, heralded a shake-up of existing laws on cannibalism, making it legal from the beginning of March to consume body parts from consenting or dead humans. Reading from a prepared statement, Mr Mullet added: "Our decision follows on from the success of a similar pilot scheme in Germany, and will bring Britain closer into line with this key player on the European stage." Amid fears that, in the UK at least, there might be an insufficient supply of people stupid enough to volunteer to be killed and eaten, Mr Mullet disclosed plans for a new Big Brother-style competition whereby the public will vote online to nominate victims "for evisceration". An initial pool of spin-doctors, politicians and other "housemates" from the Hutton Inquiry will be pre-selected to attract the maximum public interest. |

Scott Rosenberg wonders what's the ... (Feb 02 2004 23:04 GMT) - Scott Rosenberg wonders what's the big deal with Orkut. Lots of people are wondering, me too. Like Scott, this is the first one I've joined, although I've been invited countless times to join Friendster, LinkedIn, etc etc. Like David Weinberger, I'm not impressed. It's a puzzle, why would Google bother with this? |

We got it! (Feb 02 2004 23:04 GMT) - Surprisingly our flat hunt found an end tonight. The story is a bit twisted: We started looking for a new flat in January. And we saw a few nice ones on the first day, but all of them had little drawbacks, so we decided to look further. Unfortunately, none of the flats we saw later were as good as those we saw on the first day in terms of the complete mix of factors like space, location, price, relative size of rooms and of course 'nice'. |

First free iTunes song! (Feb 02 2004 23:03 GMT) - I purchased my first bottle of Sierra Mist since the Superbowl and won a free song on the iTunes Music Store! Does that make my Sierra Mist free? Sure as hell not free from the 100 calories. On the website redesign front, I'm still working through the templates, but feel like I'm done with the front page now. Let me know what you think. |
