Fireworks or Photoshop? (Feb 11 2004 02:58 GMT) - Something to keep in mind - an educational version is a one-time only deal. Neither Adobe nor Macromedia allow one to upgrade from an educational version. You could pick up an older version of either program (on ebay) at as good a price as the current educational version, learn how to use it and then be eligible for the upgrade price to the current version. |

Barriers to same sex couples adopting relaxed (Feb 11 2004 02:55 GMT) - There's a story in the Canberra Times here on the passage last night of a Bill to remove obstacles to same-sex couples adopting (confusingly the article suggests there are still amendments being discussed and it can't be both). Bill Stefaniak is upset saying "An ideal situation for any child is to have a mother and a father," I say that the best is the enemy of the good, and unless Bill's going to stop marital breakdown and teen pregnancy we have to accept that the ideal situation is not always available. Is he suggesting it's better for a child to languish in foster care for another year rather than go to a good same-sex couple (as determined by the courts)?. |

Katy Gallagher thought about quitting - but won't (Feb 11 2004 02:55 GMT) - Interesting article in the Canberra Times here on the ongoing Child Protection saga (interestingly Comrade Stanhope put out a related release on Friday which has not appeared online). The CT piece opens with: "The ACT Minister for Youth and Family Services, Katy Gallagher, admitted yesterday she was responsible for some of her department's failings in reporting claims of abuse to children in its care. Katy thought about quitting but seems to think she is indispensable despite the evidence to the contrary. |

NFL: "Black Female Singers? All Banned!" (Feb 11 2004 02:55 GMT) - The bloody purges of the NFL Pro Bowl halftime show continued unchecked this last weekend! The Robespierres in charge of haltime entertainment guillotined dubious rock singer FeFe Dobson from the evening's festivities. They did it because, ummm... because, well you see she's black and a woman and she's a pop singer and... just think of the children! |
