"Robin Hood" virus - good or bad? (Feb 12 2004 14:59 GMT) - VNUNet is reporting that a new Nachi variant has been spotted attempting to disinfect Mydoom.A-plagued systems. Issues of effectiveness aside, should the intent of well-meaning worms outweigh the fact that they are still unwanted, self-replicating intruders? |

Presenting Better (Feb 12 2004 14:59 GMT) - Jeffrey Veen has a great entry about making better presentations with a bunch of great comments left by visitors. I would second his suggestions and add that people should read Weissman's Presenting to Win as well. I especially like his suggestion about using PowerPoint unconventionally. People definitely would notice that. |

Special Software (Feb 12 2004 14:58 GMT) - So I'm just getting started with my morning catch up on news and email when boom> - Eudora up and dies on me. I restart, and it offers to rebuild my inbox index. This is something you have to do, but - if you haven't compacted your mailboxes recently - sucks. I had 2480 messages in inbox - pretty much everything since the last time I compacted. Here's the best part - Eudora, which has some decent filtering capability, won't re-run filtering on inbox. |

Vodafone Launches 3G Data Service In Europe (Feb 12 2004 14:57 GMT) - Vodafone have today kicked off their initial 3G offering. They seem to have learned a lot from watching Three struggle in the market, and instead of trying to sell clunky, large phones with poor user interfaces and bad battery life, have gone straight for one of the areas I identified that Three were very stupid to miss out on -- mobile data. According to the press release, Vodafone will be rolling out the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS datacard, a PCMCIA card that pops straight into laptops, in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK over the next month, following successful trials. Even if Three managed to pull something out the bag and offer businesses a data only service as they have been suggesting for months, my money is firmly on Vodafone winning the fight. Not only do Vodafone already have a massive number of corporate contracts in place, where adding one more service is going to be easy, but they also have one of the best networks in terms of coverage. |
