The company was made aware of the leak on Thursday and is investigating, Pilla said. He did not know how much of the code had been leaked or how many people may have gained access to it. |

Bird flu genetics studied, and oh, what a pedigree (Feb 13 2004 01:55 GMT) - Yep, we're going on about the bird flu again, but this might be about a different bird flu than the one that killed 19 people recently, which was a somewhat different bird flu than the 1997 Hong Kong version that killed some more people. See, the thing is mutating, and the reason is something scientists call "some kind of unusual selective pressure." Sounds precise, huh? They still don't know what this pressure might be, but interestingly, "the explosion in variation coincides with the period during which Chinese farmers have practiced widespread vaccination of chickens against flu." Here's some math even a science dropout can understand: |

We know vegan cheese sucks - does anyone know of a non-sucky one? (Feb 13 2004 01:55 GMT) - Ok, so some bakery company somewhere is looking for vegan shredded cheddar cheese substitute that can be baked and melts well, from which I deduce that they're looking to make some kind of vegan baked good in mass quantities, which excites me or they really have the munchies, which doesn't really excite me as much, but hey, whatever. They're looking for industrial quantities, and I don't even know of an itty-bitty quantity shredded cheddar substitute that doesn't have casein. Does anyone know of a North American source for anything remotely like what they're asking for? |
