Years Later, DoubleClick May Begin Spying On Surfers (Feb 25 2004 23:57 GMT) - Five years ago Doubleclick bought Abacus Direct, and freaked out a lot of people when they stated their plans to start linking the information in Abacus' databases with the web surfing habits of people who viewed their ads. After a public outcry, and DoubleClick said they wouldn't combine the two sets of information. However, enough time seems to have passed that they're now floating a trial balloon about the idea of combining the data once again. They claim that people are no longer worried about privacy, so it shouldn't really bother anyone. They compare it to how people used to be afraid of using their credit cards online, but now don't mind so much. |

Browse Some Talmud in English (Feb 25 2004 23:56 GMT) - The Soncino Edition of the Babylonian Talmud is now available online in translation in hypertext format. Though all readers should take this translation with a grain of salt, since all translation is interpretation, it is an important resource to have in our vernacular seeing as it was originally written in Aramaic since that was their vernacular at that time. (If you want to do your own translating, all you need is Jastrow's online dictionary. Well okay you may need more than that but still it's pretty cool...)Thanks to my Aramaic Professor David Marcus for pointing me to the site. |

I'd rather poke my eye with a sharp pencil (Feb 25 2004 23:55 GMT) - I got an email from HR inviting me to participate in a committee that is working on overhauling the orginzation's job descriptions. Right there I knew I had no choice but to accept. Today, in my weekly meeting with my supervisor, I told her I'd... |
