For my next trick: Server Side Includes (Feb 29 2004 03:39 GMT) - Now that I had a way to easily upload photos to my gallery, the next logical step was to have the most recent photos automatically appear in the side column of my blog. What I thought would be the hard part, turned out to be pretty easy. I wrote a perl script that reads the files in the mobile album, sorts them by date, and outputs the necessary html for inclusion in my Moveable Type index. (I suck at perl, that's why I thought it might be hard.) The hard part turned out to be getting the output included in the index. |

Birthday-- number thirty-mumble (Feb 29 2004 03:39 GMT) - Today is Leslie's birthday, and since I have a bit of a cold, she decided to celebrate by going hiking in the Franklin mountains by herself. I dropped her off, with plenty of entreaties to be careful, and went off to buy some music-related presents for her: a guitar stand for her acoustic, a footrest, and a new music stand. I was very glad to get the call mid-afternoon that she had decided not to go all the way to the peak (7000 ft) because it was snowing up on the trail. Thank god for cell phones! |

Obligatory Response to Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ (Feb 29 2004 03:34 GMT) - The dominant impression I left with the theater with was a feeling of sacrilege. I know it is only a movie, but I was just overwhelmed with revulsion at seeing a representation of the death of our Lord while people were eating popcorn and drinking Icees. My guess is that non-believers who see this movie will either be disgusted or bored (possibly both). This contributed to another impression I left with in regards to this movie. People seemed actually ruder than they do at most movies I've seen. |
