Oracle vs PeopleSoft (Feb 29 2004 20:28 GMT) - I think Oracle should buy PeopleSoft -- the enterprise application business is struggling with overcapacity, and there is a real customer preference for greater integration between vendor products. But it looks like the DOJ has put the kibbosh on it for anti-trust reasons. The article lists SAP as the only remaining competitor if the merger goes through, although older versions of the software should count as well. |

Blogger News Item (Feb 29 2004 20:28 GMT) - I have angried myself again this evening reading new opinions from our socialist party here in Belgium (SPA-Spirit). How short-term minded these guys and girls are! In a couple of months we have elections here in Belgium and this party thinks they have to earn their votes by involving themselves in the software-business world - a world in which they would not survive for a minute and one of the businesses here in Belgium that does well compared to other sectors. |

Blogger News Item (Feb 29 2004 20:28 GMT) - On social security. This shocking, that about 1/3 of what we pay is going into the general treasury to pay curent expenses. It is not an investment, it helps keep the pressure off the rates for the rich, since soc secuity ceases above 87k. DAVID CAY JOHNSTON, AUTHOR, "PERFECTLY LEGAL": Well, in 1983 Alan Greenspan persuaded the Democrats who were in charge of Congress to overtax us on Social Security, that is to collect taxes in advance rather than on pay as you go system. |

Blogger News Item (Feb 29 2004 20:28 GMT) - PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG PRAT # 3 Sadly, the killer pic of me at 19 dressed in Elizabethan fustian (sans codpiece) won't save. This is a poor second choice: rock & roll glory in some benighted pub somewhere/somewhen with a pint on the amp & the dart board, still with scores chalked thereon, just to my left. |

Costa, Quigley rhetoric ugly (Feb 29 2004 20:27 GMT) - How can politcal neophyte Lisa Quigley serve in Congress with two young children who need a devoted mother? Who is Quigley to dredge up ancient scandals against as worthy a public servant as Jim Costa? His record on business and water issues is the best around, His record on leadership eclipses anyone else's in the Valley. IMHO!
