Blogger News Item (Mar 01 2004 23:34 GMT) - A very good story.. Haiti as Target Practice How the US Press Missed the Story By HEATHER WILLIAMS "The fact that the group in charge of Haiti policy today in the State Department has been literally gunning for Aristide since before his initial election as a champion of democracy in 1990 has been left all but unmentioned by the US press." Now that bodies are littering the streets of Cap Haitien and Port Au Prince, major print news outlets have seen well enough to send a handful of cameramen and correpondents to send back news of the crisis. Even so, the campaign of violence that has finally ousted Haitian President Aristide has been investigated and reported to the American public with appalling indolence. The official reasoning appears to be that if Haiti is the hemisphere's eternal basket case-a dismal repository of poverty where there is no future-- how on earth could its past possibly matter? |

Oscar Winning Short: William Faulkner's The Two Soldiers (Mar 01 2004 23:33 GMT) - "I knew them too: The men and women, still powerful and still dangerous and still coming, North and South and East and West, until the name of what they did and what they died for became just one single word, louder than any thunder. It was America, and it covered all the western earth. --- William Faulkner." |

Most of the entries are out of print and/or unavailable (and a couple are anti-Holocaust denial), but if you want a copy of the Institute for Historical Review's "120 Questions and Answers About the Holocaust" (though you can read the whole thing - and a devastating rebuttal - on Nizkor.org) or Arthur Butz's "Hoax of the Twentieth Century", Amazon or its used-book affiliates will sell it to you. On the "Americano"... (Mar 01 2004 23:30 GMT) - What, exactly, is an Americano? Quite simply, it's espresso diluted to normal coffee volumes. You can pause for a moment to feel slightly insulted that watered-down espresso is called "Americano." |
