Feudalism, with and without serfs (Mar 02 2004 23:21 GMT) - Carey and Mark mention the ideas of feudalism without serfs. Basically, I think this is going to end up looking a lot like Neil Stephenson's The Diamond Age (which is, in my opinion, better than Snow Crash). The premise there is that after the governments of the world collapsed because of the Internet (bear with me), people stuck together in clans. The clans were sometimes ethnic and sometimes moral and sometimes a huge number of other things. You (kind of) got to choose where you went. |
