Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - If you are already leaning toward being a little bit sad, it is not a good idea to wake up at 6am on Saturday and read Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid On Earth. Sheesh. Like you weren't bummed out enough. That is not to say, however, that you shouldn't read it, because you should. |

Water, Ice, And Stone : Science and Memory on the Antarctic Lakes (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - It's looking more and more wet on Mars. And those "blueberries" - don't they sort of remind you of the manganese nodules that form on the ocean floor, and in antarctic lakes?A professor of mine specialized in using the formation of those nodules in Antarctica. It would be interesting to see what he has to say about what we're seeing on Mars. |

Stranger Passing (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - I was very taken with Joel Sternfeld, so much so that I'd consider buying some of his books for inspiration. He has published quite a wide range American Prospects; On This Site: Landscape in Memoriam; Stranger Passing; |

Two Blue Buckets (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - From Peter Fraser, I particularly like 2, 5, 7 and 8 from his selection of pictures on his website, as selected for the Citigroup prize. Deep blue, Material and Two blue buckets are his available published work. I really enjoy the observed detail in his photography, the reds on the floor with the trapped dandelion seed. Or the small fragments of glass beside the paper plane, giving a subtle impression of narrative. |

The Element of Lavishness: Letters of William Maxwell and Sylvia Townsend Warner, 1938-1978 (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - It's been absolutely bucketing rain all night, which would have been fine if I'd been staying in, but instead I went to babysit Raindrop of the Prophetic Nickname, who I didn't even see as she was asleep; I wasn't going to endanger the silence just to peek at her cuteness. So I sat in J&G's house and read more of The Element of Lavishness, which is like a fabulous witty friend, and then ... dun-dun-DUN! the lights went out. |

Run (Canongate Crime) (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - Drowning Ruth by Christina SchwarzI picked this up in some charity shop in York at least a year ago. There were no recommendations and it's certainly not the kind of book that would normally attract my interest but I remember seeing several copies in several charity shops quite repeatedly and it was this, I suspect, that caught my attention. However picking it up now, in the search for an easy, entertaining yarm (as a antidote to the political storm of the lastest history I'd finished and a par ... |

Dynamic Dreamweaver MX (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - It’s actually an updated version of this book, although I wasn’t involved with the original. This new book concludes with a big project case study that ties in all the techniques learned throughout the book – this was my contribution. |

How to Run Successful High-Tech Project-Based Organizations (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - When facing big projects that imply several people working in different tasks, timing is everything. To do so, you need to find an equilibrium between giving freedom to the partners and checking the progress within the project. A good guide to start is How to run successful projects by Fergus OConnell. Not another magic book with amazing corporate secrets, but a very down-to-earth recommendations on how to measure progress and assure that everything is fine. The book was originally design for so ... |

Craigslist publishes RSS feeds (Mar 02 2004 23:31 GMT) - This is close - but not quite there yet. I want the title, link to the post, summary, etc. - not just a link. Give me the ability to apply right from my aggregator or explore for more information if necessary. More job sites like Craigslist need to offer RSS feeds. |

Take a deep yogic breath instead... (Mar 02 2004 23:30 GMT) - Does expressing anger help or hurt? In my personal experience, it just engenders more anger. Not to say, of course, that getting mad can't terrify the people around you and get you what you want :) And sometimes it's unavoidable. But it's not good for your health!... |

Zach Rants About Jack Welch's Pants (Mar 02 2004 23:30 GMT) - A little while ago, not that long ago, I echo'd the idea of Blog Press Releases. Well, someone's taken me up on it. In fact, I realised something significant in the last few weeks. Users and readers have things to say. So, when people have important things to say to me in Emails, I'll be quoting them (with their permission). |
