Machine Politics in Orange (Mar 03 2004 07:59 GMT) - They sneaked in electronic voting in Orange County. When we went to the polls, the luminescent screens in their blue boxes were there. |

Abu Nawas : أبو ن (Mar 03 2004 07:58 GMT) - J'adore la poésie Arabe. De temps en temps je vais en lire sur les quelques sites [catégorie DMOZ] qui en recensent. Je ne comprend pas la moitié des vers de la poésie classique (surtout celles préislamiques), mais ēa ne m'empźche pas d'appréci... |

Re: What I love and hate about Radio (Mar 03 2004 07:57 GMT) - I totally agree with you, Lilia! Nobody has ever addressed the persistent problem of upstreaming failures. If it weren't for accidentally discovering Andy Fragen's Data File Cleaner Tool (which I have to use nearly every day), I would have had to abandon Radio. (And I'd wait all day to upstream if I didn't Compact Data Files at least once a day). And the problem has persisted even in different platforms. |

Gay Marriage Here (Mar 03 2004 07:57 GMT) - Well, Multnomah County, which is where I work and about two miles from where I currently live, will be the third county in the nation to allow gay marriage tomorrow. Update: Portland Communique has some local updating. I guess Kevin Mannix called it "idiotic" and "a travesty". So I guess that makes it a good thing. |

Intel's VC Bets Aren't For Direct Returns (Mar 03 2004 07:57 GMT) - I've been saying this for years, but there was a period of time when I was on Intel's payroll, so I got to see it from the inside: everything Intel does is to promote the sale of selling more chips. Even when the moves don't necessarily seem to make sense, you can trace it back to the goal of more chips. Thus, I find it a bit amusing that someone at Business Week seems to have just discovered this as an explanation for why it's okay that Intel's venture capital arm loses lots of money. They're not investing to make money directly. |

Ryan's Anti-Virus Recipe (Mar 03 2004 07:57 GMT) - I've finally gotten around to releasing the Procmail script I use to keep annoying email viruses out of my Inbox. This is also what I use to help generate the lovely virus statistics for the Spam-O-Meter. RAVR uses content-based scoring to filter out the most common email viruses currently in the wild. When an infected email is received, RAVR appends a header to the message identifying the virus and moves the message to a quarantine folder. Enjoy. |

Dream Dollars - A fictional Currency (Mar 03 2004 07:57 GMT) - This unusual set of currency is a recreation of the the famed Dream-Dollars from the Lost Colony of Antarctica. Although many recreations of the illustrious Dream-Dollars have been made over the years, this set is the only one officially authorized by the Nadiria Historical Society. As everyone knows, Nadiria, also known as the Lost Colony of Antarctica, was founded in 1866 by Samuel and Constance Brundt. It thrived for over thirty years, generating a diverse and eclectic collection of artifacts and records. But when the entire colony mysteriously vanished in 1899, all that was left was a collection of journals, diaries, books, and of course, the Dream-Dollars. |
