FREAK OF NATURE (Mar 04 2004 16:59 GMT) - FREAK OF NATUREBlurred vision eyes see only my entire picturePut on stage, be the main featureLook up, smile I should be proudIf tears could speak they would scream out loudI don’t want to be here, anywhere but hereHaunted by the past, obsessed by my childhood fearToo close to the heart to come nearI don’t want to be hereLocked in my own entrapment, I say its God sentFound in my low self-esteem, to commit or to repent?Dwell in the previous, cry over the presentLike a freak of nature getting a complimentRun as far away as I can, always looking back againSo much so the past and my heart turn to stone from the painI know you see me watching you and I see you watching meWhat we see is different as different could beThe good, the bad and then meThe old, the past never let me freeThis is the furthest I ranThis is all I canEscape from myself and find myself at the same timeSee it all, cross all the invisible linesNow with blurred vision I see only my picturePut myself in front, in front to follow my future.Smile it’ |

When it comes to reading, bookkeepers top the league (Mar 04 2004 16:59 GMT) - Accountants are among the keenest readers in the UK, a survey published yesterday shows. Bookkeepers spend more of their time, an average of just over five hours a week, buried in a work of fiction than many professions more naturally associated with the written word. The survey, which coincides with World Book Day, found that members of the clergy read for an average of two hours and forty minutes a week, putting them at the bottom of the list for the amount of time that people from various professions spend reading. Dj vu All Over Again in Haiti (Mar 04 2004 16:58 GMT) - The Independent Institute | Dj vu All Over Again in Haiti, by Ivan Eland When Americans see unrest, violence, rebellion or civil war in other nations on the TV news, they often rightly sympathize with the plight of the foreign citizens put at risk. Yet news is, well, news, not history. Americans rarely realize that their own government, somewhere along the line, most likely contributed to the crisis du jour. |

Get the hard-to-find CrossGen Digital Comic Books! (Mar 04 2004 16:57 GMT) - Okay, this isn't exactly NEWS but this site will go away if I can't pay for it, so I'm directing everyone's attention to my new eBay auctions for CrossGen's Digital Comic Books. These DCBs are only available in select stores, and where we have found them (such as music store chains and software franchises) they have been too expensive, but I managed to find a low-cost supplier. So, until I find a new job, selling CrossGen DCBs is one of the few ways I'm making money. Buy 'em buy 'em buy 'em! (And who knows, if CrossGen goes belly up they may not make any more of these, so they could be worth money someday. |

I know what I want for my birthday (Mar 04 2004 16:56 GMT) - UC Berkeley researchers developing robotic exoskeleton that can enhance human strength and enduranceThe researchers point out that the human pilot does not need a joystick, button or special keyboard to "drive" the device. Rather, the machine is designed so that the pilot becomes an integral part of the exoskeleton, thus requiring no special training to use it. In the UC Berkeley experiments, the human pilot moved about a room wearing the 100-pound exoskeleton and a 70-pound backpack while feeling as if he were lugging a mere 5 pounds. The project, funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, began in earnest in 2000. Next week, from March 9 through 11, Kazerooni and his research team will showcase their project at the DARPA Technical Symposium in Anaheim, Calif. |

Family Guy returns to television (Mar 04 2004 16:56 GMT) - While waiting for the morning Americano, I usually glance through the Globe or the Vancouver Sun at the coffee shop. Today only the National Post was free, so I held my nose and opened it up. And what should I find but the happy news that The Family Guy, the cartoon that feels like looking at the world through a fisheye lens from a lost dimension, intersecting simultaneously with innumerable references and washing over your brain with the cleansing fire of a gamma ray burst, will return to television yet again. This is the third or fourth life for the series, and this time the series will likely be accompanied by a movie in, part of which sees baby Stewie discovering his homosexuality. Deeeelicious. |
