Briefly on ... shopping and bad lighting (Mar 05 2004 02:59 GMT) - I went shopping tonight for the first time since … before Christmas. Big deal, you say. Big damn deal, I say. My entries have never really reflected this, but I’m a bona fide shopaholic. Well, I was until Jan. |

QotD: Weighty Marriage (Mar 05 2004 02:58 GMT) - Question: If your wife puts on 100 lbs since marriage outside of childbirth, what do you do? My Answer: I tell her to get her ass in shape. This one will no doubt piss people off, and I realize I'm not perfect by a long shot, but physical attraction is important as is sharing activities. |

Today Two Victims but Tomorrow the World's Millions (Mar 05 2004 02:57 GMT) - [GrokLaw] - SCO seems to have the PR machine in full gear, trying to persuade the world that they have a case. Both "end user" lawsuits are laughable, in my opinion, and are best used as information as to whose customer you don't ever want to be. These are not Linux lawsuits. |

Musical toys (Mar 05 2004 02:55 GMT) - March is shaping up to be New Musical Toys Month here. Last weekend (shush, technicality) I received an Overton tinwhistle from Colin Goldie, the maker of Overtons, as a gift thanking me for the time I've put into the Chiff and Fipple Tinwhistle Forum, part of Dale Wisely's Chiff and Fipple site. An Overton is easily one of the nicest-playing and well-engineered whistles available these days, and it's got me playing tinwhistle quite a bit again. I'd always played nothing but inexpensive whistles, and Colin's generosity has truly spoiled me now! Then, today, the UPS man barely arrived with my present to myself -- the guitar I mentioned earlier. |

Globalisation 3.0 (Mar 05 2004 02:55 GMT) - Yet another gem by Thomas Friedman, who has been visiting Bangalore: The first era [of globalization], from the late 1800's to World War I, was driven by falling transportation costs, thanks to the steamship and the railroad. That was Globalization 1.0, and it shrank the world from a size large to a size medium. The second big era, Globalization 2. |
