Friday Cat Blogging (Mar 05 2004 23:45 GMT) - Well, even though Kevin Drum has given up on Friday Cat Blogging, no reason the rest of us can't continue to post cute cat photos whenever the mood strikes. And tamouse on LiveJournal has found some truly adorable kitten pictures. Making the rounds of LJ a couple weeks ago was a very adorable page of Baaaaaby animals, which I now can't find. If anyone remembers where this was, could you please reply with the link? Thanks! |

Venezuelan crisis getting visible (Mar 05 2004 23:45 GMT) - Lots of articles about Venezuela today in the National Review, WSJ, Washington Post and a press release from Barney Frank who two years ago was a Chavez defender: From the Wall Street Journal: Time Is Running Out To Rescue Venezuela By MARY ANASTASIA O'GRADY During the Chilean presidency of socialist Salvador Allende in the early 1970s, Cuba and the Soviet Union both lusted for control of that frail South American democracy. Yet between Moscow and Havana, there were serious differences about the best way to realize the dream. |

Major artist Marc Cohn authorizes fans to record his concerts (Mar 05 2004 23:45 GMT) - Via Westcoast Music blog. Major artist Marc Cohn authorizes his fans to record his concerts as a nice way to promote his own material and creates a blast in the music industry. This new way reinvents a non virtual peer-to-peer way to record and distribute his music and to be recognized by fans and to gain more reputation by word of mouth and via a digital way. Here it is what Marc Cohn staff sent via email today to music fans: "Fire up your digital audio recorders and start your mp3 engines, because recording Cohn shows has been officially blessed by Marc and his forward-looking management company. |

Blair, Chirac and Schroeder's vision of health in Europe ! (Mar 05 2004 23:44 GMT) - Chirac, Schroeder and Blair met on 16 February 2004 and set forward their ideas on how to make the EU more competitive. Specifically they called for a 'Super commissioner' whose job would be to cut red tape and ensure that all EU legislation is checked for its impact and cost to business before it is approved. Either is or either are? (Mar 05 2004 23:41 GMT) - Hi, Could anyone help me with the underlined sentences: Marx's personal knowledge of journalism was shaped by the ten years he spent, while living in London, as a European correspondent for the New York Tribune. An impassioned advocate of a free press, who regarded it as a means to counter forces of oppression for the greater welfare of society, he nevertheless did not write at length about the news media. [u:f3bbc2622a]For political economists engaged with these issues today, then, Marx's preliminary insights need to be recast in relation to journalistic institutions the likes of which he could not have even anticipated in the nineteenth century. |

Postage for Email? (Mar 05 2004 23:41 GMT) - In what can only be considered the fondest dream of revenue-enhancement folks everywhere, Bill Gates thinks we should pay postage for individual emails. If the U.S. Postal Service delivered mail for free, our mailboxes would surely runneth over with more credit-card offers, sweepstakes entries, and supermarket fliers. That's why we get so much junk e-mail: |
