- Port Lincoln abalone diver Greg Pickering attacked by a large bronze whaler shark while diving with a friend off the Western Australian coast on Sunday 8/04/04. Greg often works out of Port Lincoln and Ceduna. He is a world renown free diver and has entered many spear fishing championships around the world. Greg also holds many world records after spearing big tuna. He will be in hospital for a while recovering from extensive bite wounds to one of his legs. |

- Well we are into March at last and slowly the Australian tuna season is coming to a close. Weather wise it will have to go down as one of the worst on record. We have been hammered by strong winds heaps of cloud cover and often big swells All of these conditions along with cold temperatures have had an adverse effect on the tuna showing up on the surface of the Great Australian Bight. So far this year we have only three flat calm days when the tuna have come to the surface and rippled. The CSIRO has asked us to do line transect that is where we fly straight lines from the coast out to some times 185 miles to sea and record any patches of tuna we find. |
