Fowler's Attitude Dichotomy (Mar 09 2004 11:58 GMT) - There's something that troubles me about Martin Fowler's dichotomy of software development attitudes as either enabling or directing. Although he acknowledges that it isn't as simple as dividing software developers according to these two attitudes, I still don't fully agree... |

Blog Prof (Mar 09 2004 11:58 GMT) - Blog ProfWith a new project I'm working on, I am teaching some non-bloggers how to blog and it's really interesting to show someone the ropes. I have a whole different attitude about blogging than I used to.For instance, I think brevity is the soul of blog wit more than ever. Look at my archives and see some of my first year's worth of posts -- too too long and ponderous I think. Short and sweet -- the best blog is a fresh blog full of lots of little posts. |

Programmers Underwhelmed by JavaServer Faces (Mar 09 2004 11:57 GMT) - According to internetnews.com, Java developers are 'underwhelmed' by JavaServer Faces. "The Java Community Process (JCP) has approved a standard (JSR 127) for building Web applications at the presentation layer, but the reaction of some programmers so far is that it adds another layer of complexity while delivering nothing they can use... Proponents say JSF is a huge leg up with Web application development, from hard-coding markup-languages like XML and HTML, and provides more flex... |

How can the net survive when even Symantec has it all wrong? (Mar 09 2004 11:55 GMT) - In one of the endless e-rags I get, there is a pointer to this PC Magazine article. It's an "interview" with John Thompson, a very large shot at Symantec. The author, a Michael J. Miller, is hardly groundbreaking and pretty much just goes along nodding his metaphorical head. But there are some things in there that I simply must respond to. |
