Blogger News Item (Mar 16 2004 23:59 GMT) - I highly recommedn this chapter (hard to read ij its PDF format) on a new methodology for unpacking social events. Taking "taruma" it shows how a trauma is not a human reaction to a natural event, but a highly culture dependent interpretation into daily life. http://research. yale. |

Sedna Sings A Sweet Siren Song (Mar 16 2004 23:59 GMT) - Astronomers have detected what could be the Solar System's 10th planet. It was first seen by astronomers using California's Mount Palomar Observatory, and has been given the name "Sedna" after the Inuit goddess of the ocean. Observations show it measures about 1,180-2,360km (730-1,470 miles) across, making it similar in size to Pluto. |

Minor Updates (Mar 16 2004 23:58 GMT) - I've made some minor updates to my blog. First, since I started counting entry visits with the Entry Popularity Script in January, it hasn't included any visits to entries since the blog started. So, I added in those visits. Interestingly enough, Janet Jackson Boobie Shot got bumped out of the top 3 and Venti Addict took it's place. Also, I completely redesigned my archives hompage to include excerpts and stats while grouping entries 15 per page. |

Microsoft speaks in tongues (Mar 16 2004 23:58 GMT) - Microsoft on Tuesday announced plans for a program to help governments produce local language versions of key applications, giving the software giant a hedge against a growing international threat from open-source software. The Local Language Program will provide local and regional governments with "language interface packs" that government and academic developers can use to produce localized versions of the Windows XP operating system and Office 2003 productivity package, according to a Microsoft statement. |
