Macrolide Resistance (Mar 20 2004 22:15 GMT) - Longtime Docnotes readers know that I am a fanatic about antibiotic overuse. This relegion applies not only to WHETHER an antibiotic is prescribed, but which one. I did a research project during my residency in which I demonstrated that physician prescribing practices are influenced by "detailing" as the pharmaceutical industry knows well. |

RSF to take part in anti-war demo (Mar 20 2004 22:14 GMT) - "The anti-war demonstration which takes place in Dublin today (March 20), marking the first anniversary of the illegal AngloUS invasion of Iraq, provides the Irish people with a perfect opportunity to express their complete rejection of the 26 County Administration's support for the continued illegal AngloUS occupation of Iraq, and in particular Brian Cowen's remarks on Thursday (March 18) pledging the continued use of Shannon by US warplanes. Such remarks only serve to highlight the arrogance of an administration which has chosen to ignore the vast majority of the Irish people, who have clearly expressed their opposition to the AngloUS invasion and occupation of Iraq, made clear by the presence of 200.000 people on the streets of Dublin in February of last year." ... |

October Surprise? (Mar 20 2004 22:14 GMT) - My admiration for Ed Fitzgerald's political commentary grows the more I read his unfutz. He was an early commenter to FmH and after 9-11 invited me onto a small mailing list where he and similarly thoughtful friends conducted always high-quality considerations of the urgent events of the day. Regrettably, largely because of the energy I devote to FmH, I was more of a lurker than a contributor to his mailing list. I particularly like his dissection of the possibilities of an 'October surprise' from the administration. He is not talking about the often-mentioned theory that they have bin Laden in custody already and will trot him out to the world just in time to influence the vote; |
