Anya Von Bremzen was discussing the classic cassoulets with Lynne Rossetto Kasper and mentioned Tarbais beans as the very best for high-end “beans and weenies.” Yeah, but you have to read her book to get her source for them. |

- For the past year, every couple of months when I drive somebody to the airport, I spend a greater portion of the driving time underground. I had my longest stretch driving through the big dig today on my way home from the airport. I tend to get creeped out if I'm driving and I can't see the sky for several minutes. It feels odd driving down an artificially lighted tunnel during the day. And while I was driving home not seeing the sky I started wondering if this is what our future transportation system would look like if the earth was destroyed by global warming and nuclear fallout, leaving hordes of inarticulate zombie mutant gangs to roam the earth's surface while the few remaining survivors of the human race have to burrow underground in order to create habitable living conditions. |

Mon frère de 6 ans faisait la sieste quand Papa est parti. Je crois que, même si il y a encore quelques jours il savait que nous ne verrions notre père que les week-end, enfin, qu'il ne vivrait plus avec nous et que cela ne le gênait pas vraiment, je ne sais pas qu'elle va être sa réaction, ce soir, quand Papa ne viendra pas lui dire bonne nuit dans son lit. |

- Elections régionales. Allée voter assez tôt ce matin, et dépitée de constater que les vieux étaient les seuls à se déplacer. C'est étrange comme je ressens cet acte comme important, même si les candidats ne font pas forcément ce qu'on leur demande, même si celui pour lequel j'ai voté ne gagne pas forcément. C'est en cette occasion que je me sens citoyenne de ce pays, que je nous imagine une destinée commune. As I was admiring the building one afternoon, I noticed a mistake in the pattern which may have been accidental or possibly even intentional as an Escheresque illusion. I prefer to think it's the latter since I think it lends a bit of cachet to the building. : |
