AUS: Now this is a wine cellar, Prime Minister (Mar 31 2004 04:59 GMT) - Got a moment? Thanks. I know you've got Mark Latham on your back and there's an election looming, so I guess you don't have too much time to ponder the contents of your cellar at Kirribilli House. But perhaps you should. You'll find a brisk walk around the cellar will reveal some serious shortcomings in its contents (see Epicure, 9/3/04). |

Any Tawny Port in a storm (Mar 31 2004 04:59 GMT) - They say that nothing in this world is perfect, but aged Tawny Port can really make you wonder. Top Tawnies arguably offer more pleasurable complexities of aroma, flavor and texture than any other type of wine. Yet, aged Tawnies are almost perfectly free from the unpleasant complexities that daunt many wine consumers. |

Leading the way (Mar 31 2004 04:59 GMT) - The global political calendar for 2004 appears unspectacular compared with recent years. No Monterreys, no Johannesburgs, no Cancúns, no summits on water or the information society. Yet, like all calm waters, looks can deceive. |

Everything is Illuminated, by Jonathan Safran Foer (Mar 31 2004 04:57 GMT) - Last night I finished, in the bath, Jonathan Safran Foer's wonderful book Everything is Illuminated. I warmly recommend it. As I find it impossible to review fiction, I can't say much about it, but I think it's brilliant both storywise and on the "theoretical" level. Again, I think about how it's a characteristic of many great novels to invent its own universe, and then exploit its constraints. |
