Metamorphosis / Hilary Duff : 3 of 5 (Apr 30 2004 23:57 GMT) - I've been watching so much Lizzie McGuire lately that I was simply drawn to this album, plus I had seen Hilary sing in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, so I knew she would be pretty good (I'm a sucker for bubblegum pop!). This CD is definitely fun to listen to (it's been in my car for days now), but I have some mixed emotions about it. The style of the music reminds me of Letters to Cleo, which I love, so I can really get into the songs and enjoy singing along. I'm just a little surprised at how "adult" most of the songs are - my cute 16 year old Lizzie is really trying hard to grow up! |

Some of you probably have seen this my wife showed me this video that has been going around among Korean-American mothers: a Chinese video showing how to fold a T-shirt in 2 seconds. The technique works for long sleeve shirts too but takes a couple of seconds longer. |

The war The war ... (Apr 30 2004 23:56 GMT) - The war The war I may have been wrong about the motives behind our war on Iraq. When it was suggested that the war in Iraq was a stepping stone to spreading freedom to the world through extreme methodology, I knee-jerked that the energy industry's greed and Bush family vendetta were guiding the war. Now, after watching Frontline's The Jesus Factor and having listened to evangelicals talk for the last 40 years or so, I believe President Bush's evangelical beliefs are being used by the greedy, vengeful right to sway what was quoted as 40% of Americans and 70% of voters who are deeply religious, into thinking that the Armageddon war is upon us, thus we need God's chosen president. The terrorists, who have a whack ideological bent as well, are none the less, religiously motivated to believe that our society is evil, just as we believe that fundamentalist Islam is. |

Splended Isolation I caught a ... (Apr 30 2004 23:54 GMT) - Splended Isolation I caught a bit of the BBC World Service on National Corporate Radio this morning, and was struck by the Beeb's heavy-duty coverage of the war crimes committed at the once-again-infamous Abu Ghraib prison. They interviewed the CBS correspondent in Baghad, a former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, and a British academic expert on war crimes, and described, in great detail, the specific acts captured in the photos. The Beeb news reader also cited a wave of revulsion sweeping across what we might jokingly refer to as the civilized world. Even Tony Blair is appalled, apparently. This made me curious to see how my local paper was handling the story. |
