Americans Wary of Some Terror-War Tactics (Apr 01 2004 07:40 GMT) - Americans seem willing to surrender some personal information to the government for improved security against terrorism, but nearly three-fourths of adults expressed strong concerns that government can't be trusted with such information, according to a survey. The Council for Excellence in Government reported that nearly 60 percent of adults in the survey said government should have access to personal information that companies collect about consumers if there is any chance it will help prevent terrorism. Sixteen percent of adults endorsed creation of a national identification card. Still, Americans expressed skepticism over government's use of such personal information. The survey said 72 percent of adults have only some or very little trust in government to use personal information properly, even though two-thirds of Americans said they believe the government does a good job protecting their civil liberties. |

Today on Bit-play! (Apr 01 2004 07:38 GMT) - So TechTV was bought out and is now merging with G4. Hopefully we'll be getting a LOT better shows MORE often instead of the same 5 shows being run throughout the day. I recently sat down and watched G4 this past weekend and can say portal is horrible, icons is cool, and Arena was neat. I hope they don't kill any good shows.... Remember kids, we all lose out when things merge together : |

I've got Sunshine (Apr 01 2004 07:38 GMT) - I didn't get an April fools joke done this year. Just this comic instead. There's not much going on in the world of video games lately. Final Fantasy XI was released for the PS2, though I don't know why anyone would want to pay $100 to play a game that's already been out for the PC for awhile. It'll probably be the same people who can afford $13 a month just to play one game. |

Microsoft Cancels Sports Titles (Apr 01 2004 07:38 GMT) - In this surprising article from IGN, Microsoft announces that they are taking a year off from all of their sports titles. Of course I'm skeptical about any news I read around April 1st but this one looks real. The article says that they recognize their games aren't as good as EA or Sega Sports. I wish more companies would recognize their shortcomings, like any company that releases a superhero game. UPDATE: |

Infrared Programming Using the .NET Compact Framework (Apr 01 2004 07:37 GMT) - With all the buzz around Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other wireless technologies, it's easy to overlook one of the simplest and most common forms of wireless communications out there: infrared. Anyone who's ever used a remote control has used it! Infrared makes use of the invisible spectrum of light just beyond red in the visible spectrum. You can use it in applications for short-range, point-to-point data transfer. |

Bill Gates: Microsoft Progress Report: Security (Apr 01 2004 07:37 GMT) - Malicious software code has been around for decades. But only in the last few years have the Internet, high-speed connections and millions of new computing devices converged to create a truly global computing network in which a virus or worm can circle the world in a matter of minutes. Meanwhile, criminal hackers have become more sophisticated, creating and distributing digital epidemics like Slammer, Blaster, Sobig and Mydoom that spread almost instantaneously, threatening the potential of technology to advance business productivity, commerce and communication. |
