Govt Confirms Murder of Italian Hostage (Apr 15 2004 05:59 GMT) - Updating a previous post, from Reuters via the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) : Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini says he has received confirmation that one of the four Italians being held hostage in Iraq has been killed.Mr Frattini says Italy’s ambassador to Qatar has seen Arabic television channel Al Jazeera’s footage. |

The Conflict Between Standards and Innovation in Engineering Education - 19 May 2004 - Cambridge University (Apr 15 2004 05:58 GMT) - In the UK, generic learning outcomes for accredited engineering programmes will soon be published by a Working Group with members from the Engineering Council UK, professional institutions, and the Engineering Professors' Council, which will be interpreted by each professional engineering institution over Summer 2004. But will these generic learning outcomes encourage innovative teaching methods to continue to be developed and implemented in engineering programmes? This workshop is aimed at Heads of Departments and Course Directors/Programme Leaders and will provide the opportunity to learn more about the current standards in the UK, to participate in debates on the conflicts between standards and innovation, to share innovative educational practices, and to discuss ways in which we can work together on these issues to minimise workloads whilst maximising outputs. |
