A research team led by John McManus at Stanford University watched every story in the most watched evening newscasts of the four most popular SF Bay Area stations and confirmed what everybody knows: informing people about what they need to know to remain free citizens of a democracy is no longer on the agenda of mainstream electronic journalism. The NBC, ABC, and CBS affiliates devoted an average of one minute or less on the most watched evening newscasts to the candidates' positions and merits of ballot measures -- three weeks and one week before the last election. |

Sonoma - Next generation Centrino (Apr 19 2004 23:47 GMT) - The Centrino successor code named Sonoma is supposed to come out in the second half of this year. It will use the long delayed Dothan Pentium M processors. It boasts a 533 MHz front side bus, integrated 802.11a, b and g WLAN and even better battery life. It seems about 50 Sonoma-based laptop designs will be ready to ship when the technology is launched. |

The Apple Updates Continue (Apr 19 2004 23:46 GMT) - This afternoon Apple continued its string of updates with the release of Bluetooth Firmware Update 1.1. Apple's Description Provides improvements in the update installation process, better performance when waking the computer from sleep, and support for additional key commands during startup. The Bluetooth Firmware Updater is for D-Link USB Adapters (revision B2 or later), and Apple internal Bluetooth modules on PowerBooks and PowerMacs. This firmware update will improve connectivity between the computer and the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. |
