Cursing (Apr 20 2004 21:58 GMT) - I pretty much got cursing out of my system in fifth grade when, at any time where I was outside the earshot of an authority figure, every other word was either shit or fuck. Since I don't curse very much,... |

The Hispanic Challenge (Apr 20 2004 21:58 GMT) - The persistent inflow of Hispanic immigrants threatens to divide the United States into two peoples, two cultures, and two languages. Unlike past immigrant groups, Mexicans and other Latinos have not assimilated into mainstream U.S. culture, forming instead their own political and linguistic enclaves—from Los Angeles to Miami—and rejecting the Anglo-Protestant values that built the American dream. The United States ignores this challenge at its peril. |

montauk (Apr 20 2004 21:57 GMT) - I have returned, apparently intact both emotionally and physically. It was a bit dicey there for part of the trip, but worked out okay in the end. I take this as a positive, since I’d much rather something start out... |

bay for pay (Apr 20 2004 21:57 GMT) - Next Sunday I'm heading to a government IT conference in Cambridge, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. I was looking at the web site of the event hotel--the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina--which in some ways sounds pretty sweet: its own 18,000 square-foot spa, attached marina, multi-level indoor and outdoor pool, etc. However, I also discovered that they charge $7.50 per fifteen-minute period to access the Internet in their business center. |

Dave Pollard on business innovation and networks (Apr 20 2004 21:57 GMT) - What does all this mean for today's company looking to jump-start its innovation programs and processes, and today's individual looking to participate in making his or her own, or his or her employer's, enterprise more innovative? Dave Pollard has continued his great work on networked organizations and innovation paper. Hierarchy and Autocracy are the Enemies of Innovation: There is a strong creative tension between individuals and the communities they elect to or are asked to be part of, caused by divergent needs, drivers, and behaviours. Each individual and each community needs its own space. |

Replacing The Mouse With Thumb ... (Apr 20 2004 21:57 GMT) - Replacing The Mouse With Thumb Control. MIT's Tech Review has a short article about a new type of mouse replacement that sounds like a fairly intelligent input device that takes out much of the carpal tunnel risk by recognizing that simple thumb movements can easily designate where you want the cursor to move.
