Charlie McCarthy, noir-style I finally ... (Apr 22 2004 23:59 GMT) - Charlie McCarthy, noir-style I finally finished the FGRA project earlier today, and I guess it goes without saying that I was a little burned out listening to OTR, so I shoved the Jack Benny project aside momentarily and treated myself to a movie from the stack of DVDs I recently purchased from Finders Keepers. It was kind of hard to choose, but I gave the 1939 feature film Charlie McCarthy, Detective the tap. In this short-and-sweet feature, Bergen & McCarthy play themselves, a successful night club act who find themselves mixed up in a murder case involving an unscrupulous magazine editor, Arthur Aldrich (Louis Calhern), whos had one of his reporters, Bill Banning (John Sutton), jailed before Banning can reveal the connection between his boss and gangster Tony Garcia (Harold Huber). Aldrich is murdered during a party at his estate, and both Banning (who |

Acres for our homestead (Apr 22 2004 23:58 GMT) - Anyone got a few acres, from 5 to 50 or more that they don't have a need for any more? We can not afford much. For that matter we can not even afford any kind of down payment right now but we can afford to make payments of up to a couple hundred a month. We want to build a house on it and set it up with a well and 100% solar and grow our own food and what not. The only thing we want to have to pay for is our internet and satellite. |

The Punisher (Apr 22 2004 23:54 GMT) - | synopsis | trailer | buy Ah well, not convincing at all. The Punisher reminded me of the old Mad Max movies, which were a lot better than that. I just didn't care about the Punisher story. Mad Max is a lot more emotional and real. The Punisher seems more like a movie made for TV. |

Gmail feature surprise (Apr 22 2004 23:53 GMT) - Last night I left my desktop PC's browser open to my gmail account and took my laptop to the library to do some writing. I read some new mail on the powerbook, responded to a few things, then came home and slept. Today I came back to my desk to see gmail running, with all the messages I had read and responded to shown as read and responded to. Since gmail just refreshes the page in your browser every so often, if you read your mail at one location, other locations are updated automatically. This is something POP3 mail rarely gets right and why I used to use IMAP when I would check mail from multiple machines. |

This is not JCPenney.net (Apr 22 2004 23:53 GMT) - About a year and a half ago, I posted a tiny little post just mentioning the JCPenney museum is in Plano. Apparently that was enough that the post now comes up as the second search result in some search engines, such as AOL and Yahoo when someone does a search for "JCPenney.net." Not the first, but the second. Yet inexplicably, I started to get a ton of comments on that post from disgruntled JCPenney employees. |
