Jihad's Total Fatalities since 9/11 (Apr 22 2004 03:58 GMT) - Jihad's Total Fatalities since 9/11. In a very useful attempt to track the aggression of militant Islam, Jos Smith of the Dutch business newspaper NRC Handelsblad has compiled a list of 393 major jihadist attacks around the world since September 11, 2001. The newspaper page requires a password, so I have posted the chart. |

Roquemore: Debate is private (Apr 22 2004 03:57 GMT) - Stevens Point - The loudest complaints and biggest questions presented to the WIAA following state basketball tournaments usually involve matters like foul calls or seeding. Not this year, WIAA executive director Doug Chickering said. "For the first time, I had more questions about the private schools winning state championships than I did about the quality of the referees," Chickering said Wednesday at the WIAA annual meeting. |

The Edge (Apr 22 2004 03:56 GMT) - This column by Thomas Friedman is an excellent example of why I dislike the guy so much. Most of the time he just doesn't get it. But today he does. I'm off to the mountains with the wife in the morning and will return on Monday. I'm sure that Nick, QB, Stumpy and Stirling will keep you all happy while I am away. |

Accentuate The Positive (Apr 22 2004 03:56 GMT) - During the recent militia attacks, "about 50 percent of the [Iraqi] security forces that we've built over the past year stood tall and stood firm," he said. "About 40 percent walked off the job because they were intimidated. And about 10 percent actually worked against us," said [Maj. Gen.] Dempsey. |

Re: Comment Notification not working (Apr 22 2004 03:55 GMT) - Julie, Can't help, but I can tell you that you're not alone. I went on vacation for 3 days & didn't touch my blog. When I came back, there were no new comments e-mailed, even though there were some new items in the comments. So I'm guessing it's nothing you did, since I did the opposite :-) Hopefully a temporary Radio glitch. |

Fake or Real? (Apr 22 2004 03:55 GMT) - Open Label Project- Labels of Abstraction OK, taking the last couple of days text and working up some graphics for them will take a bit of doing.... so not much more tonight. Feel free to come up with stuff yourself, after all, they've been released under a Creative Commons liscense. While these could be considered fanatasy or fake labels, I think they do make valid artistic statements. |
Digital Web Magazine - What's New
|
New issue of Digital Web Magazine (Apr 22 2004 03:54 GMT) - This issue of Digital Web Magazine is a special double issue. We have a great article from Ken Westin on cover the concept of iterative processes through redesigning in public. His article is entitled This Old Website: Web Renovations, and as you can guess by the title, he uses the metaphor of renovating houses instead of rebuilding them from the ground up. Also in this issue is a great review by Jesse Nieminen for those of you who are seriously considering setting up a small-scale audio studio right from the comfort of your own workstation. |

Oh, Those Golden Slippers (Apr 22 2004 03:52 GMT) - Okay, its time to give you a glimpse of another facet of that enigma you know as UltraMom. I have been taking clogging lessons! No, not stopping up drains or toilets. This is a type of dance. No, (as I had to explain to my niece Sara), it also does not involve wooden shoes. |

I'm in Denial (Apr 22 2004 03:48 GMT) - Colby Cosh took some time between playoff rounds to answer my dumb Texan question about my beloved Stars' early exit from the playoffs this year. The answer is one I'm not too thrilled to hear. The only part of that series I saw was the Steve Ott overtime game, and despite the Stars win, it looked about like what it was--two equally motivated teams, one overbrimming with talent and one that is past the end of a dominant cycle. Dallas just has too many guys on the wrong side of thirty. Mike Modano is a great sportsman and a Hall of Famer, but he's not the player he was two years ago. |
